AMATERAS comes from the name “Amaterasu” which is the Sun Goddess in Japanese mythology which is said to have the power of fulfilling all wishes. Established in 2018, AMATERAS is a nightwear brand that has grown its audience organically within and outside of Japan. Famous for their alluring, sexy silk signature kimono robes and pieces with their geisha logo are their best sellers.
She was born in Tokyo, AMATERAS founder Reiko Mcnish Sato was raised in Canada. Although she is Japanese by blood, growing up in a different culture taught her to have a wider perspective outlook in life. When she moved back to Tokyo to further her college degree, she realized that the Japanese prefer to look and practice western culture instead of appreciating their own. Japanese are famously known for their unique beautiful culture and practices. It is quite the opposite for Reiko as growing up outside of Japan made her appreciate it so much that inspired her to create the brand- a unique concept of mixing Japanese essence into modern western lifestyle.
Expanding from fashion to food and beverage industry, according to Reiko, AMATERAS is a concept, not just a fashion brand. Therefore, growing the brand into different industries through different ventures has always been her vision. Her concept has no borders and it intertwines cultures.
As she has traveled the world, she chose Malaysia to open her first lounge because from the first moment she and her team visited Malaysia, they felt a strong connection with Malaysians and the country. They also feel that their concept of West meets Japan would be really appreciated by the people in Malaysia. And their instincts were right! This is because we Malaysians is known to be multicultural and we are very accepting and open to learning and appreciating new experiences.
The sky lounge is located on the 35th floor of Pinnacle, Petaling Jaya as their concept requires an outdoor section with an unobstructed view of the city for their guests. The location is also perfect as their other most important factor was high ceiling windows around the indoor section to bring in natural light into the lounge especially at night.
Officially opened to the public on the 12th of November, the minimal and sophisticated interior with slight hints of real historical Japanese artifacts from Japan to give out the modern Japan meets western elegance vibe.
From the bartender that is from Japan himself – uniformed in traditional kimono, imported range of sakes to “Kagami-biraki” which is a ceremony performed at celebratory events which the lid of the sake barrel is broken open by a wooden mallet and the sake is served to everyone present, they aim to bring a new dimension of authentic hospitality and unique energy of new age of Japan into the standard of luxury and entertainment in Malaysia.
Reiko hopes that through the sky lounge they can have as many people experience and enjoy the AMATERAS concept. Her vision for the sky lounge is to be able to bring together different types of people and companies from all over the world.
