Celebrate The Year Of The Dragon At These Oriental-Themed Bars

Gong Xi Fa Cai! It’s that prosperous time of the year where the streets are lit with beautiful red lanterns and New Year music is playing in the background. It’s the season of giving, gathering and laughter. Here are 6 bars and restaurants where you can celebrate your Chinese new year with family and friends in the spirit of the Dragon.

Located in Chinatown, Jalan Petaling. Concubine is the epitome of traditional oriental. The bar itself is a redecorated home over a hundred years old. The past and present meet at Concubine where big red lanterns and colorful neon lights mix in harmony. Showcasing modernity while respecting the old heritage. The two-story bar offers indoor and outdoor seating, small plates of contemporary Asian food and a variety of cocktails and spiritual drinks. Learn more here.

Suzie Wong

Located in the heart of the city in Jalan Raja Chulan. This place is spacious and decorated in what I like to call glamorous oriental with a stage for live shows. The place beams with vibrant energy. The bar serves a wide range of cocktails from classics to Chinese-inspired cocktails. Dinner features highlights from modern Chinese cuisine and is served from 6pm. Learn more here.

Located in Petaling Street. At PS150 you may choose to sit at any of the three individual areas where each represents an era in the history of cocktails. Speaking of which, their cocktail menu is nothing short of a cocktail history book including Vintage, Classic, Tiki, Disco and Contemporary highlights as well as PS150’s own original concoctions made with local ingredients inspired by the bold southeast Asian flavors in addition to a variety of spirits and wines to choose from. Learn more here.

Fu Luck

This vintage bar is located in TREC Kuala Lumpur, one of the city’s most happening spots for nightlife. Fu Luck in mandarin translates to Prosperity & Happiness (which is the theme for this time of year) and the interior pretty much showcases that same colorful happy tone with heritage Asian and pop culture inspired decoration from the 70s and 80s. Fu Luck is known to be the home for comfort foods like Dim Sum and Wonton Noodles. Classic cocktails and Asian flavored drinks are available in addition to Ice Kacang Cocktails. Learn more here.

Crane Upstairs

Upstairs is an extension of Crane KL and is located upstairs from the restaurant, bringing a completely different vibe than the lovely restaurant with cranes. Dark and red all around as you walk into the secret door to Upstairs with many lanterns and oriental decorations. A collection of oriental cocktails and in-house concoctions available for your enjoyment. Learn more here.

Yilo Restaurant & Bar

Located in Taman Sea, the two-story bar and restaurant has a comfortable cozy vibe and is decorated in a Hong Kong style. The relaxing environment makes it a great place for a get together with friends and family. The Chinese-inspired menu offers a wide selection of traditional drinks served in an old-school crockery set as well as cocktails with bases like: Whiskey, Gin or Soju. As for food, there are many delicious options like: Noodles dishes and Kway Teow. Learn more here.
